UPDATE #1 25/07/2022
HMRC’s current CHIEF customs clearance platform is being replaced with the new Customs Declaration Service (CDS)– There is a lot to do so you must take action now to ensure you are ready. This notice is to ensure all our ACE customers are prepared for the mandatory migration to HMRC Customs Declaration Service (CDS)
Reason for these changes -
HMRC’s Custom Handling of Import and Export Freight system (known as CHIEF) platform will be shut down after 25 years in two stages.
- CHIEF is closing for Import declarations after 30 September 2022
- CHIEF is closing for Export declarations after 31 March 2023
This will make way for the new HMRC Customs Declaration Service (CDS) modern IT platform which will be accessed by Traders on GOV.UK via a Government Gateway account.
• | Providing access to all your financial information in a single financial dashboard where you can view account statements, make payments and control standing authority. |
• | Giving real time notifications and alerts on all your customs declarations and movements. |
• | Allowing you to manage your business finances by opening a duty deferment account, make payments by card or bank transfer enabling your goods to clear without delay. |
All importers and exporters participating in customs declarations in the UK need to be ready for the change from CHIEF to the new Customs Declaration Service (CDS).
All traders, agents or freight forwarders involved in exporting and importing to and from the UK will need to be ready and migrate to CDS.
Any importer who pays duty or pays VAT (not postpone VAT) will need to authorise their clearance agents (ACE EXPRESS FREIGHT EORI NUMBER GB922989383000) to use their cash and deferment accounts.
You can do this by firstly subscribing to CDS through the government gateway (must have a government gateway account) and linking ACE EORI number to your financial authorisations.
