UK Shipping Made Easy – Top tips from our UK Freight Specialist - Steve Ferris.

We all want to wind the clock back a few years when shipping between the UK and Ireland was smooth and simple, so we asked Steve to share some expert insights on how our customers can streamline their UK - Ireland logistics operations and scale their export business in our new post-Brexit reality.

Tell us a little bit about your past experience and how it will help customers?

I have worked in various management roles within the Transport sector for the past 30 years and I have extensive knowledge of UK-Ireland logistics, with 20 years of specialist expertise.

I love helping people to deliver their promises. My speciality is gaining and managing key accounts with complex or urgent requirements. By solving logistical problems and becoming a trusted part of their supply chain, my goal is to help both parties to prosper and grow.

I first joined Ace Express Freight back in 1999 and their vision of ‘when service is important’ has helped the company grow massively, but despite its size the business still remains centred around its customers and their needs, and that’s what I love about working in Team ACE.

What are the current opportunities and threats our customers should be aware of?

Brexit has reduced the power of old style low cost freight forwarders and is now paying dividends for highly professional Freight companies like Ace Express Freight that have invested heavily in technology, AEO accreditation, as well as our own in-house customs teams.

The big opportunity for Irish and UK companies is to work with a specialist Freight partner that can do all the hard work for them and allow them to focus on growing their core business while we keep their promises to their customers. 

As for potential threats, change is inevitable, and this is where a dynamic and flexible logistics partner is vital to predict issues, offer guidance, and provide solutions.

How can you and Team Ace help them to maximize these opportunities?

The Bank of England recently signalled a potential recession is coming, and this is when our customers will be aiming to improve their service and reduce their supply chain costs in order to remain as competitive and lean as possible.

This scenario requires a partnership approach with the client and logistics specialist working together to undertake a full review, not just to try and beat the Freight company down on price. Our team work closely with our customers to develop tailored solutions and can amend service levels depending on the timescale and price required.

What specific advice can you give to UK companies who want to grow their business in Europe?

If you can get an IE EORI number, we can ship your UK goods to Dublin, into free circulation, for onward delivery to Mainland Europe. This can reduce your administration and clearance costs massively. In addition, we run direct from UK to & from mainland Europe, and we also have our own Air Freight and Ocean Freight Divisions, so can quote worldwide!
