Job specification — Shift Manager

 

The primary function is to manage day to day warehouse activities across relevant shift, to provide up to date information and communicate to the highest level both internally and externally, whilst ensuring that all service levels are met and, where possible exceeded.

The successful candidate will need to manage and drive productivity and accuracy, in order to maximize all resources whilst ensuring adherence to customer levels and targets.

Leading by example, actively promotes and fosters a culture where health & safety / hygiene and customer service are of the highest priority.

 

  • Accomplishes warehouse objectives by orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, and coaching employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, adhering to policies and procedures.
  • Meets warehouse operational standards by contributing warehouse information to strategic plans and reviews; implementing productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; identifying warehouse system improvements.
  • Measuring and reporting the effectiveness of the department activities. Monitoring staff performances ensuring all staff adhering to expected operational targets.
  • Ensuring all goods received into the warehouse are scanned on arrival also ensuring all goods dispatched/collected from the warehouse are scanned out.
  • Communicate with and provide the relevant information/reports daily back to warehouse manager, by the end of each shift. Ensure all queries are addressed and closed out on and advised to relevant Manager where applicable.
  • The completion of daily operational audits (both warehouse & yard) at the beginning of each shift in order to ensure any health & safety / hygiene non-conformances are identified and addressed immediately.  
  • Ensures all operational functions and process are completed in accordance with company policy and statutory legislation e.g., Health & Safety, Security and Quality Standards.
  • Ensures the timely and accurate completion of all operational functions (receipt, put-way, replenishment, picking and despatch) and processes in order to maintain accurate inventory levels are always maintained.
  • Maintenance of training records and holidays, managing the development of employees to ensure adequate cover during periods of holidays / Bank Holidays / absence and in response to fluctuations of peak volumes.
  • Maintain stock accuracy, ensuring all picks are completed, following up on all discrepancies and liaising directly with the warehouse manager who will record & if required request disciplinary action through HR, where your full support will be required.Conduct Daily shift meetings with staff, communicating shift expectations, company updates and any improvements required, with a specific focus on operational and hygiene excellence.
  • Ensuring comprehensive shift handover takes place at the end of each shift with oncoming management and completing the relevant handover documentation in full for review by the Warehouse Manager.
  • Provide up to date and accurate information to the Warehouse Manager, as required. To be aware at all times of the status of the operation.
  • Supervise, manage, and assist in daily Warehouse operations ensuring all staff are operating to the required standards and rates.
  • Ensuring accuracy of consignments.
  • Maximizes warehouse storage capacity by organising both floor space and racking locations, up to and including the completion of slot moves where necessary.
  • Recommending measures to improve quality of service, increasing efficiency of department and team members and equipment performance.
  • Ensuring all Manifests are updated and completed, and any reconciliation activities completed by the relevant personnel.
  • Responsibility for securing the warehouse at the end of shift.
  • Any other reasonable request.

 

Experience:

  • 3 years + Supervisory experience (preferably in a large FMCG environment)
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Excellent leadership and people skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and Analysing skills
  • Ability to adhere to strict deadlines
  • Degree/Qualification required relevant to this area
