1. Appoint Ace Express Freight as your Direct Representative.
To move any shipments between the UK & the EU you require a completed Direct Representation Form. This allows us to complete customs declarations on your behalf. Please complete our online Direct Representation Form, it only takes a few minutes and once you're signed up we can take care of all the hard stuff.
2. Make sure you register for an EORI Number from HMRC.
You now need an EORI Number for both imports and exports between the UK and the EU. Go to the UK GOV website and get signed up for your EORI.
3. Importers should consider setting up a Duty Deferment Account (DDA).
A DDA allows for customs duty, excise duty, and import VAT to be paid through Direct Debit once a month rather than making a payment for each individual consignments. To set up your DDA you must apply for a Deferment Account Number (DAN), which then needs to be approved/authorised by HMRC.
4. Give us the information we need to create your Customs Declarations.
To enable us to complete a Customs Declaration on your behalf you will need to provide a Commercial Invoice, along with any Licenses or Certificates. Download our Commercial Invoice Template for UK companies and we'll guide you through the rest.
5. Find out more about Incoterms to help prepare Customs Declarations.
The relevancy of Incoterms has increased substantially, therefore you should get to know the underlying regulations and ensure you agree to them. The Incodoc Global Trade Guide explains everything.
6. Review the post-Brexit guidelines for GB - EU Import and Exports.
Detailed guidelines from GOV.UK are available for companies who are importing or exporting between Great Britain and the European Union. You can download a PDF of these guidelines at the link below.
7. Download our Brexit Toolkit for more information.
